For more than a decade, wrestlers who once competed in the Youth New Englands have gone on to make their mark in the sport of wrestling as outstanding high school and collegiate athletes. A review of YNEW past champions and placers (the list is posted elsewhere on this website) reveals a lot of familiar names… so many of whom who have earned high school state and New England titles… and quite a few who have enjoyed outstanding collegiate careers.
Many former YNEW competitors have represented numerous colleges across the country, on all levels from club wrestling and regional college teams to Division 1 programs. From the Big Ten to the Ivy League, from the Southern Conference to the New England Wrestling Association, dozens of alumni of the Youth New Englands have earned conference tittles and All-American honors while contributing to their collegiate wrestling programs.
The primary mission of the Youth New Englands is to provide an opportunity for the best youth wrestlers in New England to showcase their talents and strive for their goals by competing in a premier wrestling tournament. The directors of the Youth New England Wrestling Championships are also interested in promoting the sport of wrestling by supporting New England wrestlers beyond the youth level. With this in mind, the New England Pride Scholarship Program has been created to support athletes who aspire to become collegiate wrestlers.
High school seniors who are committed to wrestling in college, and who formerly competed in the Youth New Englands, are encouraged to apply for a scholarship award through this program. Awards are renewable annually for recipients who continue to actively participate in their collegiate programs.
In order to be considered for a scholarship award, you must complete the scholarship application posted on this website by March 1st. Ultimately, the New England Pride Scholarship Program aims to be an incentive for collegiate wrestlers to continue their athletic careers, acquire a meaningful education, and give back to the sport of wrestling by supporting future generations of youth wrestlers.
